The field coils can be paralleled with additional winding to obtain the required speed. It can also be done by regrouping the field coils in the motor, as shown below.

Additionally, such gate drivers are not interchangeable. If they become discontinued, you’ll have to redesign the schematic together with the printed circuit board.

But BLDC motors are more difficult to drive than brushed motors. With a brushed motor, all you need to do is to connect the power source to the positive and negative leads from the motor.

In the schematic diagram as shown, we have used a general purpose transistor 2N2222 to drive the DC motor. The Arduino UNO can supply current in the range from 20mA to 40mA which might not be enough for driving DC motors. It depends upon the DC motor you are using. If your DC motor requires high current input, specially if the stall current is high, then you should probably use darlington transistor like TIP120(recommended) or motor driver IC like L293/L293D or L298.

Settings can be one digit at a time or fast sweep. The OMDC-MD series speed control settings are exact and repeatable. It will precisely control speed to ±1/2 RPM of set speed, long term. No calibrations of the control are necessary.

However, in case the PWM frequency is too high, the MCU may have problems with generating PWM signals of the required value. In addition, the very high frequency may lead to the malfunction of the gate driver and transistor switches as they may not be compatible with it.  

There are several ways to generate the PWM signal for the motor, but in this tutorial we will use the 555 timer. Here’s a schematic of the circuit:
